How to identify genuine WD internal hard drives

There are key areas where you can ensure you are getting a genuine internal WD drive:

  • Package Integrity: Verify if the outer retail box or ESD packaging is damaged or not sealed before buying.
  • Replacement Products: Replacement products for WD warranty returns may not be a new product. It may be a re-certified product (including no-color labels).
  • Serial Number: If there is any concern, verify your warranty at this link and enter your serial number of your product to check the warranty.
  • New WD hard drive nomenclatures: Check our website for the latest brands available and images of what the drive logo looks like. Purchase our new generation of hard drives.

How to identify genuine WD external hard drives

  • Package Integrity: WD packages should have no marks, scratches or other signs of tampering. Original WD products come in WD packaging with a tamper proof sticker.

    No. WD does not sell replacement cases for its external drives and anyone selling these cases is not authorized by WD to do so. WD appreciates your help in identifying these sellers so please report to enforcement@wdc.com.
